[Homework]: Work on ONE of the 5 steps of a social media campaign

Monitoring

Determine who your Sources OR Aggregators are - politicians, industry organisations, job search sites, journalists, authors, academics, celebrities, industry magazines, etc

What to look for in a tool: Monitor and Listen. Respond. Analytics. Sentiment Accuracy. Ease of Use and setup. Help and Support.

RSS is Really Simple Syndication

Syndicated content is where a journalist writes and article and it appears in many magazines and newspapers. On the ‘net, RSS moves articles (the headline and leading paragraph at least) around the internet. Grab the RSS feed and put it in your monitoring panel!

NETVIBES

  • To Add RSS: Top Left, ADD CONTENT in green, then ADD A FEED, Type in website (or paste the RSS URL).
  • Click the square that appears below, then ADD MY PAGE on the popup preview.
  • Add Widgets - search for Twitter Lists, Facebook etc.

EXERCISE

Go to the LinkedIn blog or similar site and copy and paste the URL (blog.linkedin.com) into Netvibes. Alternatively go to WashingtonPost and look for the RSS logo, select an RSS feed, and right click to copy it. Choose either blog post feed or comments feed. Go to a Client Brief project relevant blog (or just mine! :) laurelpapworth.com) and look for an RSS logo - right click and add to your netvibes.

What to add?

Add Twitter accounts, Add Facebook Pages, Add newspaper journalists, Add your industry organisation e.g. Public Relations Institute of Australia has FOUR feeds (blog, jobs, events, training). Add politicians press release RSS, add academics. Monitor staff, future staff, past staff. Ditto clients, vendors, competitors.

There is a lot to Netvibes and if you ask in Discussion I will attempt to help you. As a free tool it's quite ok but obviously not as powerful as the $40,000 a month ones!
